Gold Ridge Organic Farms is located 50 miles northwest of San Francisco in the rolling hills of Sebastopol in beautiful Sonoma County, California. Founder-Farmer Brooke Hazen settled here in 2000 knowing that sandy loam soils and coastal breezes would offer ideal conditions for farming. He planted 70 acres of olives, 16 acres of heirloom apples, a variety of citrus fruits, and English lavender. The proximity of Gold Ridge Organic Farms to the Pacific Ocean in West Sonoma County offers unique benefits for farming. Temperatures are cooler than inland locations, thanks to generous breezes from the Sonoma Coast. The sandy loam of Gold Ridge soils provides excellent drainage and an outstanding natural chemical balance to all our orchards. These attributes encourage plant growth without vigor. This unique combination of soil, climate, and place is the foundation for growing our healthy and delicious fruit.
Our 70-acre olive orchard has approximately 13,000 trees and includes a diverse selection of Italian, Spanish, and French cultivars. The olives are harvested and then crafted into small lots of olive oil at the farm within hours of harvest at our onsite mill. The resulting oils are fresh, delicious, and high in antioxidants. All four blends are certified Extra Virgin annually by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC).
Sixteen acres of apple varieties, including Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Pink Pearl, dot the rolling hills of the farm, interspersed with an array of beloved Heirloom apples. Dwarf apple trees were selected with hand harvesting in mind. A smaller portion of the orchards are devoted to Heirloom Asian and European pear varieties.
We cherish our Heirloom apple varieties, including Hoople’s Antique Gold, Red Gravensteins, Hudson’s Golden Gem, Ashmead's Kernel, Cox's Orange Pippin, and many others. Our commitment to preserving these antique apple varieties serves as a treasured link to the past and ensures their enjoyment by future generations.
